Excel and CF, Options and Techniques

This presentation will take us through the various methods of interacting with Excel spreadsheets through ColdFusion.  Using the example of importing a large, multi-sheet data collection spreadsheet, we will look at the various methods for getting the data into the system and explore the advantages and limitations of each method.  On the export side, we will explore various methods with an eye towards flexiblity in formatting and embedding formulas.  This presentation will look at methods that work in CF7/8 as well as investigating the new cfspreadsheet tag that is coming in CF9.

About Jim Wright

Jim Wright has been building systems with ColdFusion and SQL Server for the last 12+ years.  Jim has worked on projects as diverse as clinical trial data collection systems for multi-national research organizations to content management for the used manufacturing machinery industry.  Currently, Jim is managing the development team at Campbell Alliance, the leading management consulting firm specializing in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. Jim graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill many years ago with a degree in Biology, and currently lives in Wake Forest, NC with his lovely wife Janice, three homeschooled kids, two dogs, three cats, ten chickens, a few thousand bees and various other creatures.
